Summer is a perfect opportunity for me to finally get involved in some game jams to help expand my portfolio. They could also be a great opportunity to work in a small team with other new people or in a pre-existing team with friends to produce a game in the time given. I've looked into a few that will be occurring over the next few months once I'm finished with university and conducted some small research about each of the ones that interested me. Of course this list of game jams is by no means extensive but there are a few I would consider trying to participate in, even if it's using it as guidance for a game and not actually submitting but instead having it to aid a portfolio piece. All of these jams are from Itch.io.

Game off 2022

There's not much information for this jam but it seems very largely participated in and appears to be hosted on a yearly basis. It starts in 6 months and submissions can be sent anywhere from 1st November till 1st December. It's hosted by Github and has 3,447 people registered currently.

Metroidvania Month

This game jam is hosted by Falcon Nova and the challenge is to create a metroidvania game within a month. It starts in about 16 days and has 28 people currently registered. It has a set of rules to stick to for the jam as well. It also has a voted on optional theme announced 1 week before the jam. It clearly states the criteria the submitted games are rated on and the prizes for the top 3 games plus the games that make it between 4th-10th place as well

Greenlight Jam

This jam starts in 17 days and is centred around making a game in a month but with deadlines and sprints to achieve during the project. It has clear dates for each stage of the jam which is treated as a sprint instead. This jam is also open to physical card, board or tabletop games as well as digital entries. The jam is hosted by tylerthedesigner and Gunnar Clovis.

Wonderjam 2

Wonderjam is a 10 day long game jam with a theme of "idle". They suggest the idea of an idle game, like idle clickers typically found on mobile phones, or a completely different interpretation of "idle" that has no relevance to the genre. On top of this, there are 2 mystery optional modifiers that get announced the day of the jam starting. They can either give a head start for ideas or a hard challenge to the jam. This jam also has a set of rules to follow.
